The question was asked about whether the campsite will allow campfires.  Right now, until October 28, the entire state is under various fire restrictions.  We are camping on primitive BLM land, which is under a stage 1 restriction, which basically states that one needs to have an approved fire ring to have a campfire.  However, the Ridgecrest BLM was a little confusing about the issue.  I believe that if you have a fire ring where you camp, and as long as it is cleared at least 5 feet around and you have a shovel within reach, that you can have a campfire.  An alternative is to bring your own fire ring to have a fire off of the ground and provide the required clearance and shovel.  It is frowned upon to build a fire on the ground or to make a new fire ring from nearby rocks.
