Exclamation Welcome to the LandOps Forum: Rules, etiquette, etc.

This forum was created to promote and support the members of LandOps.
(With apologies to Expedition Portal for borrowing the format and use of their rules...)
    RULES

Yes, there are rules. This is a private forum of members that have agreed to comply with our guidelines for content and conduct. There is no provision for "Free-speech" in a private community. Our rules are very simple, but do demand an understanding of respect for others and common courtesy.

    Family Friendly Content (PG)
A large percentage of our members have families with small children. They should be able to sit and read the forum with their kids without fear of what they will read or see.
    1. Language: No foul language, which means anything a reasonable person would not yell out to their grandmother or in a place of worship. The typical four-letter word stuff. Why? It is not that the moderators have any particular issue with foul language, and even use it themselves on occasion, but this forum is comprised of travelers of all ages and beliefs. Attempting to defeat the language filters will result in one warning and then a 7-day ban, followed by a permanent ban.
    2. Images: All images should be tasteful with zero tolerance for links or images of pornographic content.

    Flaming
    1. No brand bashing, but it is appropriate to cite specific issues with models and equipment. Example: "Toyotas Suck" is not appropriate, but to say "The FJ Cruiser suffers from the worst in-class driver visibility" is appropriate.
    2. Flaming is inapproprite and will be IMMEDIATELY moderated. However, spirited and intelligent debate is encouraged. Flaming is when a debate becomes personal, with personal insult. Debating a specific point is fine, but calling someone "stupid" is not. It is commonly known that once someone reaches the limit of their ability to intellectually debate a subject, they typically resort to personal insult or threats of physical violence. Show us how smart you are (or fully evolved) and keep the debate on point and respectful.

    Slander
Not only is it the policy of this forum that slander is disallowed, it is often illegal and subject to criminal charges. There have been several recent cases of slander on forums, where the forum owner has been subpoenaed to provide information about a member defaming an individual or company. This is serious stuff! If you are going to make claims about an individual or a company, make sure they are 100% true and not exaggerated, and come from first-hand or well-documented knowledge. Gone are the days that someone who didn't read the directions for a product can have a failure or installation issue and then publicly defame the company.

    Political or Religious Threads
Political and religious threads are not permitted on the forum and will be immediately deleted without PM or explanation. Posts in non-political threads that violate this rule will be immediately deleted. The only political or religious threads permitted are ones specific to international travel, such as educating other members on the unique cultural, behavioral or language standards in other countries. A thread about a coup in Honduras is fine.

      Multiple Usernames
It is against LandOp rules to have more than one username  or member name per individual without prior permission.

NO NEGATIVE RACIAL DISCUSSION OR COMMENTS are allowed, and will be immediately moderated.
