Land Ops - The Off Road, Navigation and Amateur Radio Search Club
Second router arrived yesterday. I flashed it this morning. Again, no problem; went like it's supposed to. Had both of them set up here in the office and they see each other. This part was easy...
guess I'd better get to work on the camera part.
Chris,
I would like to check out your Pelican case so I can be prepared for bad weather as well. Same thing for the battery boxes.
Foscam FI8905W arrived yesterday. Outdoor camera, advertised IR night vision to 30M, 50 degree viewing... we'll see. $75 refurb from Foscam via Amazon. Set up the two routers again in the office. I see the video from the remote node camera next to the coffee pot. Wow, it works. I guess I have a few more days to mount the camera on the roof of the Bronco and get it wired.
My expectations at Cuddeback were met in the sense that we saw what the mesh network was capable of and what we need to do to fill in the gaps. It's all about connectivity if we're going to use the territory we were in.
Great job everyone. I'm looking forward to the next op in Anza Borrego being posted.
I saw that we're considering a file server for the mesh and had an idea. Apologies if this was covered already, I've read through most of the posts but get lost because I haven't done much with the technology other than observe.
John Emig showed me APRSIS32 at one of the ops, so I now have a setup in my rig that ties into my existing APRS setup. As I'm preloading topo maps into the tablet, I thought it might be fun to have the tiles available on the file server so all Operators would be able to pick up missing maps from a single source.
Just a thought. Love the discussions!

I have uploaded two maps of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park (ABDSP) and the Ocotillo Wells State Vehicle Recreation Area (SVRA) to the Files section of the Meetup site.
In addition to the maps I've uploaded to the Meetup site, the USGS Map Locator and Download site has maps of the area but the maps exceed the file size limits for the Meetup site.

1. Borrego Mountain
2. Borrego Palm Canyon
3. Borrego Sink
4. Clark Lake
5. Fonts Point
6. Seventeen Palms
7. Shell Reef
8. Tubb Canyon
I will also preload the USGS maps on the Document Library server for the mesh network test.

Russ and to all Hello,
Here is the Analog to IP. Switch that I am going to be using with my mesh, I have seen them working it is very cool.
Switch Information,
I bought from Amazon, Information only.
1. Granstream GS-HT701 Handytone 701 ATA Analog Telephone Adapter.
2. Gramstream GS-HT Handytone 2-FXS Port Analog Telephone Adapter.
I am setting up a Raspberry PI as a Asterisk phone Server, I'm working no getting it up and running for the Anza Borrego Meet-up.
Todd,
According to the Asterisk.org website, there are a number of software based IP phones that will work with an Asterisk VOIP server. It appears that Zoiper http://www.zoiper.com has a free soft phone for many PCs and smartphones. I suggest we download the software to our laptops and smartphones and test the software based IP phones along with the ATA based phones.
I'm putting zoiper on my tablet. Which Account Type should I choose? (SIP, IAX, or XMPP)? or does it matter?
If we're setting up a base camp for the recon, I wouldn't mind hanging out there and working comms. I'm also bringing a 2m ringo and mast set up that I think will get it up to 30 feet in the air.
Looking forward to tomorrow!
