Plan on staying in Troy Meadows campground. This will be a recon op in Monache Meadows, about 45 minutes away.

Vehicle Communications

Vehicle to vehicle comms will be 2 meter for hams and/or FRS for non-hams. Frequencies to be announced
2 meter primary frequency = 145.555 MHz
FRS = channel 1 (no privacy code)

Net Control Communications

  • VHF/UHF - Vehicles will communicate with net control on 2 meter and/or UHF depending upon crossband repeater setups.
  • HF – nets will be based on available operators
  • APRS – turn it on if you have it for shared awareness

Important information:

Troy Meadow campground is almost 1.5 hours drive from hwy 395, and you will gain about 6,000 feet altitude driving up 9 Mile Canyon Road.  It is important to fill up with fuel in Pearsonville (Shell) before heading up 9 Mile Canyon Road.  It is recommended that you bring at least 5 gallons of extra fuel with you, since the Kennedy Meadow General Store sometimes is out of fuel, and they usually only have regular when they do.

Troy Meadow campground is a first-come campground so try to arrive on Friday afternoon if possible to secure a site.  The camping fee is $17 per night. Some may wish to camp in Monache Meadow, and if you choose to do so, a recommended area to camp is at 36.200650,-118.176111 which is at the edge of the meadow, about a 45-minute drive from Troy Meadow campground.
