During the Death Valley SAR operation, John and I discussed getting together before the Cuddeback Lake event. 1. We will test our nodes and applications for connectivity and make adjustments to the setup if necessary.
2. We will set up a node like we would at net control, then drive with the other nodes for various distances and various directions to test connectivity.
3. Time permitting, we will set up a node on a hilltop and see if that would serve as a relay for the nodes that might otherwise be unable to reach each other.

When wiring the 12v battery to the power plug for the Linksys router does the polarity matter?
I have the same question for the Foscam camera?? However, I think the Foscam is powered over USB with 5 volts correct?
Yes to both on polarity. In both the center pin is positive. And yes, the camera requires 5 volts - and you are correct, the Linksys router requires 12 volts.
ok...I got a much better handle on what is needed and how to wire it all up. I needed this second field trip to get a grasp on the details. To confirm, we will all be using version 3 firmware to flash the routers. I will work on a suggested node placement plan for Cuddeback to capture video remotely.
I have flashed both of my nodes with the 3.0.0 firmware. The default SSID is "BroadbandHamnet-20-v3". The -20 signifies the bandwidth the device is configured for (the default) and the v3 signifies the version of the firmware. In order to interoperate following the upgrade, make sure that the default SSID is the same (which would indicate that the settings are the same).
All my nodes are now on Version 3 and my SSIDs are all as Russ mentioned. I attended Saturday's Big Bear Amateur Radio Club meeting and talked about MESH - the club members seemed receptive to the idea of a node with a gain omni antenna at the club repeater site on at the top of Bear Mountain ski area. Not sure when it will, or if, it would happen, but at least the seed has been planted.
ok Great! Thanks for posting the settings/version. I have made all my wirings for power cables to battery for router, camera and mounted the router on a tripod in a nice way. I should have this node operational with HD camera when I pick up the camera and antennas.

2 x Hi gain Omni-directional 15dBi gain 2.4 GHz antennas with N female connectors.
and
2 x Bolo Brands N Wireless 18dbi 2.4GHz Wifi High Gain Antennas (Yagi)
plus a few RP-TNC to RP-SMA adapters
