Idle Spurs opens at 4 PM. If we have an early dinner we can make it to camp and still have time to sit around the fire.

Our original plan was to end up near Pinnacles of Trona. Perhaps the Mojave Road can be planned for next coll season (Fall this year)
Murphy's Well is a good target area. I'll be calling the restaurant this week for a reservation (if they take them).
Just joined the club and am bummed to be missing this trip, looking forward to the reports ...

This one has some potential depending on how late everyone starts rolling. Imagine leaving the steak house and heading North on Ft. Irvin Road. Left hand turn at 35.082050 -116.849355. Then an almost immediate left turn again at 35.098609 -116.859957. This put you on Starbright Mine Road up a nice smooth wash. It breaks out of the mountains at the Eastern end of the Coolgardie Mining District . Simple navigation can then take us to the suggested camping spot for the night (roughly 10 miles straight line distance to 35.130113 -117.103727). This area is rich in mining history and indian activity. There are mining cabins, petroglypghs, Semi-precious jewels, gold, petrified wood, lava bombs, etc... Although I do have the Mojave Trail in my sights for a soon to do trip (by jeep).
I am in for any adventure! What about the Mojave Road idea, Barstow to Nevada?
In any case, I would need to finish Sunday Night so I can get to work on Monday morning...

One option for Friday Night is an area called Murphy's Well. It is just south east of Opal Mountain and it is a bit protected. Coordinates are 35.130113, -117.103727. It isn't far from the network of trails that work around Opal Mountain, and I think it's less than an hour outside of Barstow to get there.
I'm thinking that we should plan on a restaurant rendezvous early Friday evening in Barstow at Idle Spurs for dinner. Then head out on a night op to base camp near Opal Mountain area. Camp overnight.
Saturday: break camp late 10:00 AM and arrive at new camp no later than 4:00 PM Saturday. Camp Overnight.
Sunday: Break camp by 9:00 AM with additional exploration until 5:00 PM with option to stay over night to Monday OR depart the area and head for home Sunday evening.
Any thoughts? this would be 2-3 nights of camping on the move (light and mobile) overland style
