For those who don’t know, the US Forest Service closed most forest service forests in California for several days, which caused the Kodiak Race to be cancelled.  Please respect the forest closure orders for your safety.

Well I thought I was going to make this event but unfortunately I have to cancel.

Conflict in schedule with something I have to do.

I have been assisting John for the past five-years with this event.  I am looking forward to assisting again this year.

Here is an update on the event from John Emig.  The event has not only had its date changed, but there are some format changes.

    Hello all:

I finally have information on this year's Kodiak 100.  And there are lots of changes.

We will only be responsible for one race - a 100 mile event with less than 100 runners. That race will start at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, and finish 30 hours later on Saturday, Sept. 12.

All the entrants in the race will be "elite" runners - people able to run 100 miles in 18 or 19 hours (or less). That means the race will be much compressed - aid station hours will be shorter and the over-all race will be limited to 30 hours. (100-mile races vary greatly in difficulty - a runner who can finish a flat desert course in 19 hours may well take 24 hours, or more, to finish the much more difficult Kodiak 100.)

And, we will need operators to keep track of those runners. If you are able to help on these new dates, please let me know.

Once we have figured out the new aid station times, I can put together a list of available assignments. However, since the start time is only an hour earlier than last year you should have a rough idea of your aid station's times, based on last year's experience.

For those who can help, I am thinking we should set up a Zoom meeting. I will notify those who respond as to the date and time of the meeting. In your response please let me know what days of the week and times that would be good for you.

And, thanks again for all your help in years past!

    John
